LG V30

The latest Android smartphone is the LG V30, a high-end handset in every sense: It features a dual-camera setup, class-leading processor, and an edge-to-edge OLED display. The V30 carries Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 system-on-chip, paired with 4GB of RAM. The V30 utilizes a similar pairing of a standard and wide-angle lens, with the former rated at 16 megapixels and the latter at 13. But the new device goes a few steps further, with an f/1.6 aperture and an f/1.9 aperture, respectively. The bigger aperture will allow more light into shots, which should especially improve images captured in dark environments.      LG also implemented a new technology with the V30 known as Point and Zoom. Simply tap an object on the screen and a slider will appear, allowing you to close in on that aspect of the frame first using the wide-angle lens, before switching to the normal one, and then using digital zoom. It should be a handy feature for producing fun videos and blends the V30...

Moto G5S Plus

The  Moto G5S Plus  is the latest affordable phone from Motorola. It was just a few months ago that the phone was released. The Moto G5S Plus features an all-metal unibody design that feels decidedly superior to the G5, which has a plastic frame with select metal parts. There’s a new camera housing for the dual 13MP shooters (a first for the Moto G line), and the 5.5-inch 1080p display is probably the most notable aesthetic change, compared to the 5.2-inch display on the G5 Plus.      One powerful feature of the Moto G5 Plus that we don't see in flagship carrier variations is the support for virtually all mobile networks, both GSM and CDMA. You can pop in a SIM from Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, and their prepaid partners and be off and running with the Moto G5S Plus. In addition, you don't get any of the massive carrier bloatware that so many carriers love to add. The one specification that continues to be lacking in the US model is NFC, ...

Smartphone AI

AI  or artificial intelligence is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. These processes include learning (the acquisition of information and rules for using the information), reasoning  and self-correction. Particular applications of AI include expert systems, speech recognition and machine vision.        Mobile AI will change two key aspects of the smartphone;User-machine interaction, and "context-personalised openness".The first aspect will improve efficiencies between the user and their phone across text, voice, image, video, and sensors, while the second will actively provide services and aggregated information across apps, content, third-party features, and native features. On the iPhone X, AI algorithms are behind the facial recognition system Face ID, the animated emojis Animoji and augmented reality apps.On the iPhone X, AI algorithms are behind the facial recognition system Face ID, the anima...

M-commerce

M-commerce (mobile commerce) is the buying and selling of goods and services through wireless handheld devices such as cellular telephone and personal digital assistants (PDAs). Known as next-generation e-commerce, m-commerce enables users to access the Internet without needing to find a place to plug in. The emerging technology behind m-commerce, which is based on the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), has made far greater strides in Europe, where mobile devices equipped with Web-ready micro-browsers are much more common than in the United States. In order to exploit the m-commerce market potential, handset manufacturers such as Nokia, Ericsson, Motorola, and Qualcomm are working with carriers such as AT&T Wireless and Sprint to develop WAP-enabled smart phones, the industry's answer to the Swiss Army Knife, and ways to reach them. Using Bluetooth technology, smart phones offer fax, e-mail, and phone capabilities all in one, paving the way for m-commerce to be accepted b...

5G Technology

5G is an upcoming telecom network system which will have much higher speeds and capacity along with much lower latency, compared to existing cellular systems. The technologies which are going to be used in 5G are still being defined. Mostly, 5G networks will be using a type of encoding called OFDM, similar to the one used in 4G LTE. 5G networks will be much smaller and smarter, compared to any previous systems.           According to reports, the standard bodies are aiming at 20Gbps speeds at 1ms latency. 5G will not only enable better usage of smartphones, but it will also start the era of driverless smart cars and smart homes. In the smartphone sector, the biggest change with the introduction of 5G is expected in the field of AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality). 5G network is the next chapter in the telecommunications standard, which will make our smartphones even more fast and powerful. Companies such as Qualcomm, Huawei and Nokia are worki...

Apple iPhone 8 Plus

The Apple iPhone 8 Plus might have lost a bit of its thunder to the Apple iPhone X, but given that the former is already on sale, with the latter at least a month away, this is the phone top flagship for the Indian festival season. The Apple iPhone 8 series is an upgrade on the iPhone 7 series, but has a new number because of the design change in the form of a glass back.Apple iPhone 8 Plus has the same design features as the earlier version, except for the fact that this one has a glass back. This feature is more necessity than design, as the new wireless charging option won’t work on a metal back. The rest of the phone looks and feels the same, though it is a tab bit heavier thanks to the glass back. The display is better, but not radically different.      The phone handles everything with ease and despite getting a bit warm at times, has no issues with performance. With iOS 11 making multi-tasking more natural on the iPhone, the A11 Bionic chip really fl...

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Smartphone

Xiaomi has launched its flagship Mi Mix 2 smartphone in India. The phone is priced at INR 35,999 ($551), making it the most expensive Xiaomi phone to be launched in India. There are a lot of improvements over the first iteration of Mi Mix. Xiaomi implemented a smaller 6-inch screen (technically, 5.99”). The display also has 18:9 ratio, making it look a little bit taller than the first Mi Mix's screen. We lined the two phones next to each other, and the new phablet is visibly smaller. It also feels better in hand because of the more rounded corners. The Mi Mix 2 has a ceramic body that makes the device way more slippery than usual. The camera is now protruded and has a golden rim. It might look stylish, but after several hours staying in the pocket, the bump already got a ring of dust around it. The camera itself is pretty good, and while the back is a fingerprint magnet, it can also be used as a mirror for proper selfies. Or not. We didn't have much luck with it - ...

Samsung Galaxy Note 3

The Galaxy Note 3 is a large phone that offers a similar experience to a small tablet; its particular party trick being the now-familiar S Pen. As for aesthetics, we once again find ourselves on well-trodden ground, as Samsung largely opted for minor tweaks this time around. That said, in a lineup, the Note 3 probably shares more of a family resemblance with the original than the Note II; In a way, this also follows the evolution of the Galaxy S, which was ever-so-slightly less curvaceous than the phone it deposed. One thing's for sure: you can't accuse Samsung of being inconsistent. If we get out the measuring tape, we'd see that it's 5.95 inches (151.2mm) tall, 3.1 inches (79.2mm) wide and 0.33 inch (8.3 mm) deep. Number fans will be quick to note that despite the larger display (5.7 inches, up from 5.5), the Note 3's footprint has remained largely unchanged. In fact, it's a hair thinner and narrower, and only 0.1mm longer. This design voodoo doesn...
